Fridays for nature


Learn about how to read the landscape, make impactful interventions that help the ecosystem and connect with people.
We have a lot of fun learning and working together while we exchange knowledge, methods and have direct impact on nature.

Regular events open to anybody are key in the community building process around the topic of ecosystem restoration. Having fun and learning how we can help out nature in its time of need boosts gives great energy.

Educational Farm Tours


Learn about the story of Vinha Velha: the start in the 1980's with two idealistic brothers that looked for a place to live in harmony with nature. The present situation where 2 of the daughters of the founder took over and run the farm while focussing on organic food production, eco tourism and sustainable forestry. 

   - What: A tour about the past, present and future of Vinha Velha,
     explaining about restoring ecosystems, organic farming, ecotourism
     and community living.

Vinha Velha, we meet in front of the cafe.
   - Who: Accessible to all.
   - Price: Contribution from €10 onwards: your choice. Above this amount
     your contribution will directly go into our efforts to restore ecosystems.
     Some people take this opportunity to compensate for their CO2 emissions
     or as a way to give back to nature. Or to contribute to our crowdfunding campaign.

Educational events to show people how to collaborate with nature and can give a lot of hope and inspiration.

Workshop: Triple action
to restore the waterstream


Learn how to restore the most important functions of the ecosystem: water- the source of life, the soil- the nutrient cycle for the plants and biodiversity- the sophisticated natural support network based on diversity of life. 
We learn from experts while having fun together and having a direct impact on nature during the interventions. And you take home a treasure of knowledge to apply on your own land or to share with others.

Workshop: Agroforestry


Learn how to create an agroforestry plot that combines building the natural layers of the forest while combining it with creating a yield by producing a diversity of fruits, nuts and vegetables. Agroforestry is proven to be an effective method to create income with less machinery and energy input, improve the soil, build forest lines with native species

Having impact on nature is one thing, but we also want to educate people about it. One way to do so if by offering an educational tour where people can learn all about Vinha Velha and our joint natural restoration work.

During the last session of our recurring 'Friday for nature' interventions we started planting cactuses along the border of Vinha Velha. One of their functions is to create a natural fire barrier. And we planted the acorns that Kiki collected.

During the first days of 2021, members of OpenForests visited Vinha Velha to map the farm using drones. The result is just mind blowing. The high resolution imagery will help us to analyze the landscape, plan interventions ánd show you what we do.
